Steering Committee

Backbone Team


Campaign membership

The Membership populates all sub-groups to the Campaign. Members amplify and extend the work of 4CA throughout California by acting as a conduit of information between the Campaign and members’ own aligned local, regional, and state-level initiatives and stakeholders.

Role and responsibilities

  • Participate in quarterly information sharing webinars
  • Participate in 4CA groups, including ad-hoc work groups
  • Convey information between 4CA and members’ own local or statewide stakeholders/partners

Sector Policy Work Groups

The Sector PWGs represent five sectors that make important contributions to addressing childhood adversity and its impact on children, youth, families, and communities

Role and responsibilities

  • All: Develop, decide on, and engage in sector-specific tactics and activities to implement strategies outlined in the Action Plan
  • All: Monitor policy advocacy opportunities that are in alignment with the Action Plan
  • Co-leaders: Participate in the Steering Committee, work with Backbone Team to plan meetings/calls
  • Meeting every 1-2 months or as needed by phone, and 1-2 in-person meeting annually (travel stipends provided as funds permit)

 Steering Committee

The Steering Committee serves as a champion for 4CA and provides leadership by supporting SPWG activities and fostering alignment of 4CA activities with the Action Plan. The Steering Committee includes 2 co-leaders from each SPWG, 3-4 cross-/multi-sector representatives from the general membership, and the backbone team.

Role and responsibilities

  • Support the development of Sector PWGs as needed
  • Review, provide feedback on, and support Sector PWG priorities and tactics
  • Identify opportunities for cross-/multi-sector policy efforts
  • 2-3 in-person meetings per year (costs paid by CYW as funds permit), and as needed by Monitor overall progress and alignment with

Action Plan


Backbone Team

The Backbone Team provides administrative and process support and coordination to the Campaign Membership, Steering Committee, and Sector PWGs. The Backbone Team consists of staff from Center for Youth Wellness and Children Now.

Role and responsibilities

  • Plan for group meetings, webinars
  • Prepare materials
  • Coordinate communication
  • Lead fundraising efforts
  • Manage resources
  • Meeting frequently in person or by phone, as needed
